Steroid receptors of primary ovary cancer and metastasis
Authors are prospectively treating 15 patients with diagnosis progressive ovary cancer. During the surgery the specimen of primary ovary cancer and the specimen of the omentum affected by metastasis were taken from all the patients. The specimens are being placed separately in the surgery room into a liquid nitrogen while the contents of the receptors are being determinated using the method called DDC at the Clinic for oncology and nuclear medicine within the Hospital ˝Sestre milosrdnice˝. In 46, 6% of these cases estrogen is positive (ER) at primary tumour. Regarding the metastasis estrogen is positive in 26, 6% of the cases. Progesteron receptor is positive (PR) in 40% of the cases in primary tumours and in 13, 3% metastasis. ER and PR were positive in 20% of primary tumours and in 6, 7% metastasis. The difference is not significant for statistical purposes. The receptor status is changing in all modalities at the metastasis. ER values at primary tumour are: 37, 0-176, 0 fmol/mg, X=75, 42 fmol/mg, SD=56, 09 fmol/mg, while at the metastasis is as follows: 37, 5-170, 4 fmol/mg, X=91, 57 fmol/mg, SD=256, 5 fmol/mg, PR at primary tumour amounts to 26, 8-837, 8 fmol/mg, X=258, 3 fmol/mg, SD=304, 07 fmol/mg, while at the metastasis 21, 5-37, 4 fmol/mg, X=29, 45fmol/mg, SD=11, 24 fmol/mg. ER concentration is higher at metastasis (t=2, 4 ; p<0.05) and PR is higher at primary tumour (t=1, 97 ; p<0.05). Authors of this work are putting the emphasis on a dilemma in making a choice of the adjuvant therapy using gestagens regarding the content of the receptor of the primary tumour and metastasis while at the same time accening the need of further research in this problem.
