SOLVING THE PROBLEM OF OVERHEATING OF TWO DIESEL ENGINES BY THE COMBINED APPLICATION OF MEASUREMENT AND CALCULATION
This paper presents a procedure for the calculation of the cooling power of radiators installed on two Diesel engines that showed overheating when working in high temperature environmental conditions. Due to the lack of geometry data and performance characteristics of installed radiators, and due to a need for continuous functionality of engines under consideration (the engines can not be out of order for more than 3 hours), the cooling power of the existing radiators is calculated by using the data obtained with the measurement which required a minimal intervention on the engines. On the basis of this calculation, the lack of cooling powers of the existing radiators was obtained. By applying a similar calculation, several different possibilities of attachment of additional radiators were analysed. Solutions that were subsequently implemented were found on the basis of the results of these calculations.
