Applications of Lightweight Materials in the Motor Spindles for Machining with Robot Structures
Recently, there are many examples of high-speed machining feed drives often with different robot structures, as well as the structures of parallel kinematics. In consideration of these applications, a light design with preservation of satisfying rigidity and dynamics performances are expected from the motor spindles. An intensive development of new materials (lightweight alloy, foam materials, composites) enables innovative solutions for the high-speed drives. This paper analyses application possibilities of the lightweight materials in the design of motor spindle components and presents some concrete solutions of lightweight motor spindle performances for robot applications.
