Serum parameters of intensively reared common pheasant (Phisianus colchicus) during fattening
Biochemical values for intensively reared Common pheasants (Phasianus colchicus) were derived from 160 male birds taken from the "Zelendvor" pheasantry in the Republic of Croatia. The blood samples were taken by wing vein puncture in the period from June to December 2005. The pheasants were obtained as eight-week old birds and the fattening period lasted until the age of 32 weeks. Calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, total bilirubin, creatinine, glucose, total protein, albumin, blood urea nitrogen, trig-lycerides, cholesterol, as well as aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, creatinine phosphokinase and amylase activities were assayed. The serum values defined here could be used as indicators of metabolic and health conditions of intensively reared pheasants.
