Implementation of Vehicle Telematics in Urban Areas

Vehicle telematics implies the use of telecommunication and information technology for the traffic process purposes. Based on the gathered information and processed data from the vehicle and its traffic environment the telematics system helps drivers to make decisions, mostly for the purpose of raising the safety level and saving time. A special reference has been given to the relation Vehicle – Telematics Services – Driver with an overview of driver assistance systems as navigation/route guidance. Also, all advantages and obstacles to further development of the abovementioned relations are given. The implementation potentials and possible benefits from certain vehicle telematic services in the City of Zagreb (capital of Croatia), based on the carried out research, are analyzed.
