Power quality analysis of MV distribution system before connection of the wind farm
In the last ten years there is a worldwide trend of rampant use of renewable sources of energy (wind energy in particular) in the generation of electricity. Following this worldwide trend, the first small wind farm in Croatia named Ravna1 was installed on the Pag Island in the year 2005. The second wind farm Trtar-Krtolin is now in construction near Šibenik. Since renewable sources of energy, especially the wind, are mainly of a stochastic nature, the question arises how power stations like wind parks can influence power quality having in mind that they are as a rule connected to small and relatively weak distribution networks. The paper deals with the measurement of power quality of the local distribution network at the point of coupling of wind farm Trtar-Krtolin. This measurement was done according to European norm EN50160 before connection of the wind park. Short description of the wind generating set is also given. In conclusion, some comments are given regarding the measurement results and possible effects of the wind park on the power quality in distribution network.
