Effect of preformed egg-phosphatidylcholine vesicles on spontaneous vesiculation of oleate micelles
Addition of fatty acid micelles to preformed phospholipid vesicles of certain size results in formation of new vesicles with final size distribution similar to the size of the preformed ones. This phenomenon is called “ matrix effect” (1). Mechanism of this effect is not yet fully understood. In this work ESR method was applied to study the effect of different molar ratios of phospholipids and sodium oleate on physical properties of the newly formed vesicles by varying molar concentrations of the two components. Spin label, 16-doxyl-stearic acid, was used that incorporates into hydrophobic environment and reflects the molecular dynamics within the vesicles. Size distribution and Zeta potential of newly formed vesicles strongly depend on the molar ratio and concentration of both, phospholipid and sodium oleate. 1. N. Berclaz, E. Blőchinger, M.
