Palliative Medicine's First Steps in Croatia
The author describes her motivation and her first visit to St.Christopher's. The question was raised: does it make sense to speak about "dying with dignity" amid so many terrible and extremely humiliating deaths during the agression against Croatia? The answer was positive so the introducing the hospice concept to Croatia was started. It was decided to organize symposia, to establish the society for hospice/palliative care, to publish articles and books and finaly to establish hospice units, including mobile teams. The first three issues were reached, the fourth due to the war and the state in transition problems was delayed.
