Technology, Innovation and Economic Growth in Developing and Transition Economies
The central purpose of this paper is to examine the role of technology and innovation in transition and developing economies and to connect it with the emerging literature on long-term growth trends. Innovation and technical change are now percieved as critical to competitivness of firms as well as of nations. Technology is not easily transferable across countries. Persistenly large widening gap between poor and rich economies shows the need for economic policy measures to stimulate a catch up process. National innovation system comprises the network of public and private institutions that fund and perform R&D are crutial for cathing up.
