Autochthonous Croatian grapevine cultivar "Jarbola" - molecular, morphological and oenological characterization
Ampelographic investigations supported by molecular marker analysis were used to characterize old endangered autochthonous grapevine cv. Jarbola. The investigation was performed on 20 remaining vines of white-fruited and 1 red-fruited Jarbola. Basic ampelographic description and genetic profile on ten microsatellite loci were made. The allelic profile of red-fruited Jarbola indicated the synonymy with autochthonous Istrian cv. Hrvatica. White Jarbola was not related to any earlier analyzed local or world cultivar, it has been genotyped and described in this work for the first time and presumed relation with Ribollas was denied. Preliminary physico-chemical and sensory analyses of wine were made. Due to this research Jarbola was included in Croatian National Catalogue of Varieties and its preservation gave a valuable contribution to a general region recovery.
