Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University of Zagreb - Avian Clinic

Avian Clinic, as part of Department of Poultry Diseases, exists at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb until 2003. Before that the companion birds were treated occasionally on the Department or other clinics at the Faculty. Since 2002 one of the elective courses in X. semester is &laquo ; ; ; ; Diseases of cage birds&raquo ; ; ; ; where students gain theoretical knowledge about avian medicine, and opening of the Avian Clinic enables applying of gained skills, but also to hold seminars and master classes for veterinarians. Treatment of companion birds is primary task, but in addition, care for wild birds, which need special restraint and treatment is also provided. Together with clinical examination, complete laboratory diagnostic (bacteriological, mycological and viral- molecular laboratory), X- ray, surgery and other special services are available in our Clinic and at the Faculty. Hospitalization can also be provided on site. Our experts are member of the AAV, WPSA, WVPA, Croatian Veterinary Chamber and Croatian Microbiological Society. The number of patients, belonging to different species, increases every year, what suggests that more and more bird owners in Croatia seek adequate care and advice for their companion birds.
