Numerical solving of problems with high gradients using adaptive multiresolution method

Meshfree method developed in this work is named Adaptive Fup Collocation Method (AFCM). Basic characteristic of the numerical model is an adaptive multi-resolution evolution of solution with all resolved spatial scales and with desired level of accuracy. The method is very convenient for numerical simulations of processes with high gradients and concentrated loads. Efficiency of the proposed method in computational mechanics is provided by few examples of one dimensional problem, namely, the approximation of the test function characterized by narrow zones of front and wave, and the analysis of a beam on an elastic foundation subjected to a concentrated load. Results show that AFCM is well suited for dealing with general boundary conditions and sharp gradients. Hierarchic increase a number of basis functions in the model provides a simple way to increase the accuracy of an approximate solution in places where rapid changes of solution steepness occur. Simultaneously, computational efforts are reduced due to space adaptation.
