Human-centred Design in Intelligent Tutoring : a Key Role of Usability Evaluation
Despite the present strong insistence on learning experience enabled by electronic technology, the progress in the field of e-learning has been quite slow. Current reports emphasise the central role of the design of e-learning applications, as well as the need for carrying out usability studies and testing, which should also take into consideration learner-centred aspects. The objective of this paper is to report the results of usability study of two operational e-learning systems. This study enabled us to strive for the development of more usable systems and tutoring environments. Even though the evaluation results were encouraging, both in terms of user acceptance of the systems' features and attitude towards the systems evaluated as well as in terms of the achievement of the initial goals that led to the employment of usability assessment, further research is needed.
