Intracrown ring for crown and fixed partial denture abutments
The ICR will give additional retention for the abutment crown because of the compressible ring (ICR) placed in the grove prepared in the lower third of the abutment during the crown preparation. An ICR is indicated if the crown preparation made on the abutment does not meet the general principles of retention and resistance form, and it is not possible to improve the biomechanical properties, or if the correction procedure may present the risk of damaging the biologic structures of the abutment. Finally, it my also be used when the retention and resistence form may be adequate for a single crown but may be not be retentive enough for the management of a fixed removable restoration where extra dislodging forces may be applied to the crown through the precision attachments of the removable portion of the restoration.
