Implementation of the fault detection and isolation method into the control system
Faults in one system of an automated plant has often undesired effects on other subsystems ship if remedy actions are non taken rapidly after a fault occurs. In critical applications, shut down functions and interlocks are used to prevent failures to dilate from one subsystem to another. This paper presents a new method for design of fault handling as a supervisory part of a control system. The method is based on analysis of fault modes and their effects at the component level. Fault detection and isolation were accomplished using analytical redundancy principles. The result is a methodology for engineering design of dependable control loops which presents the propagation of all identified component faults and where in a control loop fault handling should be employed to stop migration of faults to a higher level.
