Generic Software Component as a Foundation for Computer Vision Systems

Today’ s Computer Vision systems are mostly realized as dedicated solutions for particular problems. Typical approach is to develop a specific solution by using procedural languages to efficiently use the available hardware resources and to obtain best possible performance. The use of the procedural approach requires long and complicated development process which results with solutions which are difficult to customize, extend or reuse. This work introduces a different approach – the implementation of specific computer vision systems based on generic software component which contains a set of algorithms and practices for computer vision applications. The set of architectural decisions together with the actual implementation practices are explained to show how modern component based platform can be efficiently utilized to develop a variety of solutions from the field of the computer vision. The advantages of the proposed solution are confirmed with the performance analysis of the designed and implemented system. The achieved results clearly show that the variety of computer vision systems can be based on the generic software component which can simply be extended and reused to develop solutions for specific applications.
