Criteria for Selection of Vessels for Implementation of Advanced Transport Technologies on Inland Waterways

Regarding natural preconditions in Croatia, the river traffic has good opportunities for development. The Croa-tian rivers connect the country in the East-West direction and flow into the Danube which is one of the biggest European waterways. The modernisation of vessels is one of the forms of improving the supply of traffic services. In Europe today, mainly pushed vessels are used as well as selfpropelled ves-sels, whereas the towing technology is being discontinued. Croatia needs to renew its fleet of vessels and this can be re-alised by constructing new vessels, purchasing the used ones or by redesigning some of the existing non-propelled vessels. Regarding trends in advanced river transport, special atten-tion should be paid to the purchase of the Ro-Ro and con¬ ; ; tainer vessels suitable for the Croatian inland waterways. It is therefore necessary to determine the criteria for the selec-tion and purchase of adequate vessels
