Descriptive and analytic epidemiology of Parkinson´s disease
Unequal choice of diagnostic criteria and research scheme make the comparison of results concerning the epidemiologic studies of Parkinson´s disease all over the world impossible. The prevalence varies from 35-187/100.000 population, and the incidence from 5-24/100.000 population. Parkinson´s disease is the illness of adults. Its mortality rate is three times higher than that in general population of the same sex and age. Treatment with Levodopa preparations brings about more favourable course of the disease. Disability increases with age and psychic ruin of the patient. Genetic determinant of this disease is of irrelevant causality. Viral infections and the effect of toxic substances are pointed out among the extenal factors of the pathogenesis of the disease.
