Creative Economy in a Mixed Society: Approaches to Measuring its Potential

This is a discussion of approaches to measuring the potential for the inclusion of the postsocialist transitional economies into the creative economy. It is argued that the focus of research should be social and that postsocialist societies are at best so-callled "mixed societies", containing pronounced elements of both traditional and modern social structures. Some of them, like Croatian society, are subjected to a simultaneous evolvement of two modernization processes: the first or "simple" and the second or "reflexive" modernization (Beck). It is argued that the attitudes towards the use of technology and new media are an important indicator in the context of measuring the social competences necessary for the inclusion into the creative economy.
