Apolipoprotein E Genotypes and Serum Lipids in Patients with Vascular Dementia
Association of apolipoprotein E genotype and lipids in serum was investigated with dementia and patients who were considered to be risk of dementia, due to high serem cholesterol. Genotype of APOE was determined by PCR using allele-specific oligonucleotide probes and amplification refractory mutation system. The distribution of APOE genotypes and the frequency of alleles for examined groups was investigated. The most common genotype among the VaD patients, early onset AD patients and risk group was APOE e3/e3, whereas APOE e3/e4 was common one in late onset AD. The genotype APOE e4/e4 were among demented patients, while this genotype did not have any patients in the risk group. In the nondemented patients of the risk group the concentration of all measured lipids were significantly higher than in demented patients.
