Genetic diversity among maize inbred lines revealed by SSR markers
The genetic diversity of elite germplasm has always drawn the attention of breeders. Recently, SSR markers have been used to study genetic diversity among maize inbred lines. The objectives of this study were to 1) determine the level of polymorphism at 27 SSR loci among 41 maize inbred lines, and 2) estimate SSR based genetic similarity among these inbred lines and compare the obtained results with the pedigree data. Mean number of alleles per locus was 4.4. Genetic similarities among lines, estimated from SSR data as Dice similarity index, ranged from 0.11 to 0.93. Cluster analysis, based on SSR data, clustered maize inbred lines, in most cases, according to expectations based on pedigree data.
