Hydrogeological Investigations with Water Quality and Quantity Monitoring on Loskun Spring in Croatia

On the spring Loskun in the area of Lika (central part of the Republic of Croatia) hydrogeological investigations have been performed with the aim of estimating the water quality and quantity for water-supply. The spring Loskun is a typical karst spring with minimal discharge of about 200 l/s. It is situated in a deep morphological depression along the river Una. Almost the whole catchment area of the spring Loskun is built of karstified carbonate rocks typical for dinaric karst. The initial investigation works have been performed and the applied investigation methods mainly monitor the outflow through one hydrological year and the water quantity by using the chemical and bacteriological analyses ; they also perform the geological and structural-geological observation of the terrain. The preliminary catchment area has been determined with the tracing plan and other methods for more precise setting of water divides. Minimal outflow in the given hydrological conditions has been measured which was evaluated to be relevant because of the relative dry summer. Hydrochemical analysis of the ionic water composition and the basic physical and chemical parameters in dependence on the outflow quantity has been made. The investigation works opened the key questions and set the foundation for more precise elaboration of this important, although not yet investigated enough karst spring.
