The results of treatment children's Hodgkin lymphoma in Croatia
Over the last 10 years there have been significant changes in treatment of Hodgkin's disease (HD) which have brought about further increase in number of cured chilsždren. Since the disease has good reactions on chemotherapy and radiotherapy, today as many sick children as possible are trying to be cured with as little as possible early and late side-effects. The aim of the report is to give treatment results of children with HD in Croatia. They were staged and reated in a single institution. Patiens and Methods. At the hematology.oncology department childre's clinic Salata Medical Faculty, Zagreb in the pariod of 1990-2000, 34 children (16 male and 18 female, 2-18 years) with HD have been treated with the combination of cytostatic therapy ( OPPA, OEPA and COPP) and radiotherapy (involved field radiation) ; 3 were in stage IA, 12 in stage II A, 10 in stage II B, 4 in stage III B, and 3 in stage IV A. Results. The remission has been achieved in all patiens ; in 5 relaps appeared due to which considerably more aggressive cxtostatic therapy as vell as radiotherapy were applied ; in 3 in comgination with bone marrow transplantation ; 2 patiens died. 32 patiens are alive in the 1st or the 2nd remission. Serious side effects were not noticed. Secondary malignancis did not occur in any of patiens. Conclusion. The results of treatment aren't differ form the other European Centres for children's hematology and oncology.
