Quantum hydrodynamic models with temperature effects: pros and cons
Semiconductor devices have reached the nanoscale length where quantum effects play an significant role. Usually, quantum systems are described by microscopic quantum models. In order to reduce the computational effort and to work with intuitive quantities, macroscopic quantum models have been derived. Quantum hydrodynamic models belong to this group. In this talk we derive and compare different quantum hydrodynamic models. The equations can be obtained formally from the Wigner equation, using the moment method. By taking the certain closure condition and choosing the collision operator, we derive different quantum hydrodynamic models. Finally, we present some numerical results for a one-dimensional resonant tunneling diode.
