TLC - A FAST SCREENING METHOD FOR POTENTIOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF SURFACTANTS
Thin layer chromatography is a very simple analytical technique for separation and determination of surfactants, applicable for determination of impurities in tensides and detergents. The quantity of determined tensides can be quantified after potentiometric titration by applying ion selective electrodes. In this research work, both methods have been tested and applied for determination of anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants. The advantages of thin layer chromatography were rapidity, ease of operation, low cost of the analysis and a huge variety of application possibilities due to the wide choice of adsorbents and solvents for stationary and mobile phases that can be chosen and optimized for each individual sample. The advantage of potentiometric titration are very high degree of automatization and a possibility to obtain very low detection limits with different ion selective electrodes for different surfactants.
