Compartmental Syndrome Assessment using Bioimpedance Measurements
A compartmental syndrome is a condition in which increased tissue pressure compromises the circulation and function of the tissue within that space requiring an immediate diagnostic finding and surgical treatment. The standard clinical diagnostic procedures are either painful for patients or are inadequate, showing only circulation and / or vessels state. We made certain that early and non-invasive diagnostics of compartmental syndrome is possible, especially in the patients with one-extremity syndrome, i.e. only one leg seriously ill, using multiple frequency bioimpedance measurement and analysis of characteristics in the frequency range from 100 Hz to 1 MHz. One of the main problems in compartmental syndrome diagnostics, determination of normality criterion due to differences among subjects, patients and population, is discussed.
