Urea synthesis modeling
Urea is an important petrochemical product, used mostly in fertilizer production. It is produced on a scale of some 100 mil. tonnes per year worldwide. Considering it is produced on a large scale, it is important to find optimal operating conditions of production plants. This paper presents a study on operating conditions of the synthesis section of an existing urea production plant, with a goal to increase its efficiency, and decrease overall energy consumption, thus minimizing the production cost. The synthesis section steady-state simulation model was developed using ChemCAD software. Simulation results were verified using real plant data.
