Improving the waste water treatment of urea production
The process water in urea plants contains ammonia, carbon dioxide and urea. The concentrations of this components vary within a range depending on the operating conditions and type of plant. The purpose of the process water treatment is to remove ammonia, carbon dioxide and urea from the process condesate. Using the program system ChemCAD, a simulation of the process waste water treatment section of urea plant UREA2 of the fertilizer industry Petrokemija d.d. in Kutina was made. Over the years it was noticed that a few improvements on the urea production could be made, and the waste water treatment process is one of them. Object of this paper is to suggest an improvement of the existing process, from economical and environmental point of view. Sensitivity study of the process parameters that effect the outgoing quantity of ammonia and urea in the waste water treatment section was made.
