Possibilities of reducing the trains travel time
The transport of passengers and goods by railway requires certain level of service in order to make railway competitive with other transport modes. This means that it provides sufficient frequency, punctuality, comfort, safety, and acceptable fares. The potential passengers decide to use railway for transport on the basis of the schedule and the fares. If there is a favourable choice to reach a certain destination according to schedule, regarding departures and journey times, it is very likely that the potential passengers will decide to use railway transport. The shorter journey time makes the greater attractiveness of travelling by a certain train. The work analyses the most important factors that influence the journey time and the possibilities of reducing it on the current tracks and with the existing vehicles. It emphasises the interdependence of all the influencing factors and the importance of the maximum effect of each one, so that a good synthesis thereof would result in the maximum journey time reduction. Special treatment is given to the possibility of increasing the travelling speed through curves. Therefore, the paper analyses the influence of the increase of the outer rail superelevation and the implementation of tilt trains on the journey time reduction and the ride comfort.
