Properties of clay mineral surfaces modified by intensive physical disintegration
Surface and bulk properties of minerals can be modified by physical wear causing particle size diminution. These processes, called "physical weathering", continuously occur in nature and result in alteration of size, morphology, and bulk properties of mineral components. The present study reviews research on the effect of physical disintegration on the alteration of the structural and surface properties of three different types of clay minerals - kaolinite, Otay-montmorillonite and chlorite-ripidolite.
