Late Bronze Age Metallurgical Activity in north Croatia
The paper brings new evidence concerning metallurgical activity of the Late Bronze Age in northern Croatia. Previous research stressed the importance of hoards of bronze objects found in large quantity on the territory of river Sava, especially around the city of Slavonski Brod. Their existence has been connected with rich bronze-casting within the settlements, and the finds of moulds for casting bronze objects, slag and fragmented bronze objects document it. One of the settlements with such finds is Kalnik-Igrišče with 7 hearths recovered in excavation for which it is assumed some role in process of bronze-casting. In recent times, the site Mačkovac-Crišnjevi has been excavated along the river Sava, where a hoard of bronze objects has been found. The settlement is dated to the end of Middle and beginning of Late Bronze Age. These results show the developed metal industry of Late Bronze Age associated with good geographical position in the vicinity of ore rich areas of northern Bosnia.
