The problem of closing of commercial outlets in the central areas of town - example of Ilica street in Zagreb
Gentrification of the city centre, a process that has lately been a topis of many foreign authors, is only tentatively present in Zagreb. In it's firt phase, gentrification means closure of the commercial outlets in the central areas of the city and moving of the poor and socially deprived inhabitants. That process is in American literature known as blight. But in the next phase of gentrification comprises rebuilding and adaptation of the central areas and settling of the affluent inhabitants. The first step in that process is opening of brand retail and other commercial outlets. This process has over the past few years begun in Zagreb with the simultaneous closing of small private domestic commercial outlets. This paper deals with structure and location of the closed commercial outlets in Ilica street, by some the most important street in the city of Zagreb.
