NANOPARTICLES OF ZEOLITE IN THE FUTURE TEXTILE FINISHING
The new textile applications for achieving the materials for human performance (medical, protective and sports) is one of nine themes according the European Technology Platform for the Future of Textiles. The present paper is an atempt to apply nanoparticles of natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) for achieving the material with high level antibacterial and UV protection. Clinoptilolite has a cage-like structure consisting of high portion of SiO2 (60-67 %). For such purpose natural zeolite with high fraction of nanoparticles was applied on cotton fabrics in different treatments. Zeolite in this paper means activated micronized particles of clinoptilolite produced by tribomechanical processing in the patented machine. Such product has a high fraction (80 %) of nanoparticles. In the present paper cotton fabric was mercerized, treated with azalide compound for antimicrobial effects and with zeolite for expected and achieved better antimicrobial and UV protection. Antimicrobial test with gram positive Staphylococcus aureus and gram negative Klebsiella pneumoniae microorganisms used showed the high antibacterial effects when nanoparticles of zeolite were applied in the finishing of cotton fabrics. The high UPF results confirmed that nanoparticles of natural zeolite have important role in achieving high level protection of textiles.
