Morphological aspects of restraint stress induced lesions in rats
Pathihistological changes in the stomach, liver, heart, testes and spleen developed during the restraint stress were studied. The animals were Wistar albino rats restrained for 24 and 48 hours. Expect for the liver, all organs showed more severe lesions after 48 hours. In the stomach bleeding mucosal defects were the principle finding, in the heart a cloudy swelling and hyaline degeneratio, in the liver a fatty change, in the spleen a depletion of the follicle "mantle zone", and in the testes a reduction of the germinal epithelium. The role of circulatory disorders and the influence of free radicals in the pathogenesis of the lesions are discussed.
