Blood Flow and Velocity Estimation Based on Vessel Transit Time by Combining 2D and 3D X-ray Angiography
X-ray imaging technique is used to estimate blood flow and velocity in artery vessels. Current monoplane X-ray systems can perform 3D reconstruction of the arterial tree as well as to capture the propagation of the injected contrast agent on a sequence of 2D angiograms. These two datasets can be mechanically registered. Blood flow is estimated from blood velocity and vessel cross-section area. Blood velocity is obtained by measuring the transit time of the contrast agent through the vessel of known length. Transit time is obtained from 2D image sequence by measuring the time of arrival of contrast agent to different parts of the projected vessel.
