Occurrence of phycotoxins in the Eastern Adriatic waters
This study reports LC-MS/MS analysis performed on samples of mussels Mytilus galloprovincialis that were positive on mouse bioassay. Mussels were collected from the shellfish-breeding areas along the Eastern Adriatic coast during two years period 2004-2005. Their tissue was tested for biotoxins, such as Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning (DSP), Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) and Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning (ASP). Regarding the DSP toxicity, LC-MS/MS analysis showed the presence of okadaic acid (OA), yessotoxin (YTX) and different derivates of yessotoxin (COOH-YTX, 45-OH-YTX, HOMO-YTX) in those samples. First HPLC analysis of ASP toxicity was carried out in 2005 and gave no positive results.
