The angle of friction of corn grown at different levels

The research focuses on the angle of friction in six corn hybrids belonging to the same vegetation (FAO) group. The hybrids were grown on two different levels of production efficiency, called intensive (IPS) and extensive (EPS) production system. The research was conducted on three Croatian hybrids by the Bc Institute in Zagreb (Bc 4982, Bc 462 and Bc Jumbo 48) and on three hybrids by Pioneer, USA (Florencia and Stefania and Pr36T58) in the years 2001 and 2002. The research aimed at determining the influence of applied agro technology on the angle of friction (at the beginning, greater part, and the end). The angle of friction was measured by means of an instrument with an inclination plane. The research results show that the EPS was associated with a smaller angle of friction (EPS was also found to effect lower average kernel humidity content, but also a smaller average 1000-kernel weight). The angle of friction at both levels of applied agro technology was found to be in a positive correlation with the water content in kernel, i.e. the angle of friction increased with the increase of kernel water content. Certain hybrids with higher kernel water content did not have a bigger angle of friction, which suggests that other kernel properties of particular hybrids also need to be taken into consideration when determining the angle of friction.
