Jury trial in Croatia 1874-1918
Jury trial in Croatia has been adapted from the Austrian legislation in 1874/75. Jurisdiction of the Croatian jury court was limited to the press offences only, instead of it definition by general clause in the Austian legislation. The reasons for that wer mainly political. Apart of that the jury trial in Croatia was ocassionaly suspended, again because of the political reasons. Influence of politics to the judiciary and modalities of that influence proves to be important for understanding development of the Croatian judiciary in its formative period.
jury trial; judicial independence; freedom of the press
