Digital Preservation of Local Newspaper Heritage

This paper presents a pilot project whose goal is to show how digital preservation can help preserve and make accessible 19th and early 20th century newspapers held in the Osijek museum, that contain valuable historical data for the local community. In cooperation with the museum, a newspaper with a special historical interest to the city of Osijek shall be digitized and made accessible. Also, a survey among LIS students (first and the fourth year) shall be conducted in order to compare accessibility and usability of the data in digitized and original document.
