Crystal structure study of two (E)-(4-phthalimido- 2-buten-1-yl) pyrimidine derivatives

Nucleoside analogues have been shown as potential antiviral agents, especially those that have a rigid structural element, e.g. a double bond into nucleoside or carbocyclic nucleoside structure. Herein we describe the crystal structures of two (E)-(4-phthalimido-2- buten-1-yl) pyrimidine derivatives: (E)-1-(4- phthalimido-2-buten-1-yl)uracil (1) and (E)-1- (4-phthalimido-2-buten-1-yl)-5-fluorouracil (2). The molecules of 1 are joined by one hydrogen bond of N-H...O type, thus forming centrosymmetric dimmers via eight-membered rings. The action of this hydrogen bond is reinforced by two C-H...O hydrogen bonds that link the dimmers into three-dimensional network. In 2, the N-H...O hydrogen bond also form centrosymmetric dimmers via eight-membered rings. The dimmers are additionally linked by two C-H...O hydrogen bonds and one C-H...F hydrogen bond, so forming two-dimensional network.
