DMO World-E newsletter www.frontlinecommunication.co.uk/dmoworld/

The DMO World is an online newsletter designed for tourism professionals, experts, journalists, scientists and students. It is a comprehensive source of electronic web links and brings brief up to date tourism industry news worldwide. With about fifty articles, brief news, conference and research reports announcement in each issue, the bulletin is the fastest way to get actual information about various aspects of tourism industry. Furthermore, the DMO World e-Newsletter is completely free of charge. The Newsletter is a project of a relatively new British consultancy company TEAM (Tourism Enterprise and Management) established in 1997 and specialising in destination management. With this focus on destination management their aim is, according to the Editor, to share information, expertise and experience that they collect through their consultancy practice with the wider community. The first by-monthly newsletter was published in December 2004. Since then, ten issues were published and each issue is easily accessible though the web-site. While each issues brings an array of very useful information, it is also, as one would expect, a promotion tool of the TEAM consultancy house and their projects as well as of other consultants who typically contribute with their articles on the topic that they have specialised in. Nevertheless, it is still very useful for tourism practitioners as well as for those who teach or study tourism. The bulletin is, typically, divided into several sections such as: 'key articles', 'research and reports', 'dates for your diary' (announcing conferences and events), 'destination brand watch' and sometimes 'special features'. Each news or article has links to the relevant web-sites (i.e. conferences’ web-sites, international tourism organisations such as World Tourism Organisation, World Travel and Tourism Council, IPK International, the Pacific Asia Travel Association, the International Federation for IT and Travel and Tourism, the European Travel Commission, the European Tour Operators Association, as well as national tourism organisation such as the Malaysian Tourist Board, Visit Britain, Tourism Australia, the Canadian Tourism Commission, Australian Tourism Export Council etc.) Their latest issue, published in March 2006, in the section ‘ Key articles’ brings a report on future tourism trends prepared by Oxford Economic Forecasting (OEF) on behalf of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) ; evaluation of destination web-site, promoting the Destination Web Watch service and booklet endorsed by the UNTWO. The TEAM consultancy group was part of the Destination Web Watch project team. The idea of destination web watch was to develop a scheme that will help destinations to be sure that their web sites are competing effectively in an increasing crowded marketplace. ‘ Special features’ section brings an article on management destination communication in times of and after the crisis, inspired by recent tsunami and hurricane disasters and an article on the role of meeting and conventions planners in shaping the hospitality sector. The ‘ Research and Reports’ part gives an overview of the Epsilon Interactive’ s, consultancy specialised for the e-mail communication solutions, Annual Survey of Consumer Perceptions of E-mail and Spam. It also features preliminary results of the European Tour Operators Association's (ETOA) report - Inbound Tourism to Europe in 2006. An interesting feature is Destination Web Watch bringing news about destination marketing efforts and initiatives. In this issue, controversial Australian campaign “ Where the bloody hell are you?” is under the spotlight. There is also a section dedicated to the international news while, under the heading 'Dates for your Diary' congresses and events are announced. This DMO World e-Newsletter is an excellent example of a newsletter featuring the most relevant information on industry trends and practices, especially in the area of destination management. At the same time, it is an excellent example of the consultancy house publishing this newsletter for its own promotions purposes as well as a good platform for all other consultancies, associations and institution to promote their activities and expertise.
