Dynamic capabilities of SMEs ; The role of information technology

New economic conditions, through the global competitiveness as a resultant of more connected world economic space, made the environment in which only the change can be taken as a constant. Dynamic innovation solely brings to a company the possibility of long-term subsistence, therefore Small Enterprises are becoming more and more important. In this paper authors deliberates the Small Enterprises’ capabilities for dynamic implementation of changes that are indispensable for competitive advantages improvement as well as the role of IT in such processes. IT brings specific benefits to a firm, from perceiving hidden business opportunities and potential problems which will enable proactive strategies, creating the basis for continuous improvements, through clarifying the competitor’ s strategy, increasing the velocity of market entrance, better estimation of a buyer, to understanding of extern impacts and, finally, increasing the possibilities of company’ s survival. From one aspect, using of contemporary IT technology often is considered as the accelerator of innovation and change processes, and from the other, there is a question whether the IT can react quick enough on challenges and demands of innovations. It is often seems that the goal of the IT is a stability instead of proactivity and innovation support. The question is whether the usage of IT contributes to the enhancement of Small Enterprises’ competitive advantages through the innovation and change incitement, or it is only the instrument that ensures pursuing the change in contemporary business environment as well as the company’ s survival in such unstable conditions.
