Reconstruction of the Vc corridor on railway line Osijek – Strizivojna/Vrpolje

The pan-European Corridor V.c (Ploče– Sarajevo– Osijek-Budapest) is a branch of Corridor V (Venice - Trieste/Koper– Ljubljana– Budapest– Uzgorod-Lvov), and a section which passes through Croatia has been divided into two parts, the northern part (Beli Manastir-Osijek-Vrpolje-Slavonski Šamac, in the length of 106.6km) and the southern part (Metković– Ploče, in the length of 22.9 km). This Corridor plays an important role in connecting the eastern part of Croatia via Corridor X with the central part, neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary, as well as with Europe in general. The Osijek– Strizivojna/Vrpolje section is today the only connection between Osijek and Vinkovci. According to the current categorisation it belongs to the category of the main secondary lines, included in the network according to the TER project, as well as in AGC and AGTC agreements. Since it is in a technically extremely poor condition, its reconstruction is a must so that it could satisfy the stipulated parameters in the mentioned agreements. According to the existing project documentation there are four variants of reconstruction solutions, which differ mostly in the deviations in the region of Viškovci and Meteor. The work gives an analysis of the current condition of the mentioned section, the basic characteristics of the future condition of the railway line, and the technical and technological presentation of the solution variants. In order to select the best variant, the methods of multi-criteria and cost-benefit analyses have been applied. The variant solutions have been evaluated through technical and technological and economic parameters. The conclusion presents the results of the applied methods which are the basis for suggesting the most acceptable variant for reconstruction.
