ALUMINIUM FOAM DRILLING
Aluminium foams are low density materials due to the aluminium, with high strength and rigidity as well as good damping capacity due to the cell structure. Therefore, their application in the modern lightweight structures is the object of intensive research. It is possible to join such structures by welding or by screw fastening. Paper presents the results of experimental investigation of axial forces in drilling aluminium foam on drilling parameters - feedrate per tooth and drill tip angle. Samples of aluminium foam with mean closed cell size of 0.5-1.5mm, manufactured with indirect foaming by precursors AlSi12, are used as a workpiece material. Experiments are carried out at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb.
