Cardiac čacing based on intracardiac flow measurement
The idea to use the diastolic filling waves for cardiac pacing control has been committed upon defining the relations between A-V interval of cardiac pacing and diastolic filling waveform. Different applications will require different accuracy of diastolic function measurement. Some of them will require very long-term measurement and parameters follow-up such as heart failure monitoring. This implies that some clinical applications will require calibrated and stabile sensor. It has been proven that ultrasonic Doppler flow measurement method is feasible from energy consumption view for implantable devices. First of all, specially designed cardiac lead comprising low loss HF cable is an obligatory component of that system. Novel ultrasound transducer materials has been investigated for this application. Electrochemical sensor doesn't consume energy at all and the processing circuits are very simple. It could be designed in two different ways: - amplifier within the pacemaker and flow sensing electrode on the leads and - sensor capsule with electrodes and preamplifier mounted fixed on the lead. In order to pertinently study both sensors - ultrasonic and electrochemical, the experimental lead has to be designed, comprising both sensors adjacent to each other, for chronic animal study.
