SEPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF AROMATIC FRACTION FROM FCC FEEDSTOCKS AND FCC PRODUCTS
Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) is the most important cracking process for the conversion of high boiling fractions (heavy gas oil, vacuum gas oil and residues, tb=250– 600oC) to low boiling fractions (motor gasoline, tb< 216oC). The content of aromatics and olefines together with saturates dictate the final properties of fuel. The quality requirements for enviromentally friendly transportation fuels have pushed refiners to characterize FCC feedstocks and products. The source and type of feedstocks used in FCC processes are responsible for content and distribution of aromatic types in final FCC products. Different chromatographic techniques (HPLC, GC, GC/MS) were used in composition determination for both feedstock and products. Two feedstocks based on REB and Syria Light crude oil for FCC process after removing asphaltene fraction and obtained products of FCC undergo a chromatographic determination. In maltene component of feedstocks and gasoline and light cyclic oil ( LCO ) a group type content of aromatics was determined by the „ back flushing“ analytical NP HPLC. Column switching semi-prep NP HPLC was used for collection of different fractions for further GC and SIM GC/MS measurements. Measured results and observed difference in composition of feedstocks and final products were discussed and compared.
