Characterisation of oak mistletoe and common thistle honeys by physicochemical, sensory and melissopalynology parameters
The International Honey Commission (IHC) working group has been constituted in 1998 with the aim of collecting analytical data related to the main European unifloral honeys. Recently, they published physicochemical, organoleptic and melissopalynological parameters of fifteen most abundantly produced honey types. In addition, Codex Alimentarius and EU directive allow specific denominations for honey produced from particular botanic sources (as unifloral honeys), but they do not specify the characteristics of various honey types. Most of 15 selected honey types for which IHC published parameters are widely spread in Republic of Croatia as well. For this work, physicochemical, organoleptic and melissopalynological parameters of oak mistletoe (Loranthus europeaus Jacq.) and common thistle honey (Cirsium spp.), which so far haven't been considered as unifloral, have been determined.
