THE IMPACT OF ENZYME FINISH ON THE QUALITY AND HAND OF DENIME FABRICS
Present and appreciated for a long time in the market, traditional denim fabrics have recently been, under the influence of fashion trends and requirements, modified through various finishing processes (bleaching, stone washing etc.). These processes alter original form and properties of the fabric, including the notion of the quality on the part of the end-user. As enzymes have been used quite frequently in the finishing processes for denim fabrics, the authors have tried to investigate the quality and hand of denim fabrics treated with alfa-amylase and cellulase families of enzymes. The enzyme treatment of desizing and washing denim fabrics generally improve total hand value (THV), i.e. yield and feel, although some detrimental effects can occur after repeated washing.
