Systems for Fish Chilling on a Fishing Vessel

The paper presents systems for fish chilling on the medium sized (20 metric tone of catch) fishing vessel. Main parameter that affects the fish quality is chilling velocity, which varies depending on the chilling method. Chilled sea water (CSW) method has been found to be the most appropriate for demanded task. Further, the comparison of two different systems for chilling the sea water is presented. Compression refrigeration system with ammonia and absorption ammonia – water refrigeration plant powered by the heat recovered from engine exhausted gas are compared. It is shown that the single – stage absorption refrigeration plant has given better results in energy efficiency (fuel saving) and in terms of environmental impact, but does not match demands and energy at disposal.
