Multimedia Systems Maturity Through Virtual Reality

The mainstream of multimedia systems development is distributed systems that are based dominantly on distributed objects model. Research and development efforts in multimedia systems field cover stand-alone multimedia workstations and distributed multimedia systems and, they are extremely oriented to time-independent, continuos media, where distributed multimedia systemsapproach offers a broader spectrum of implementation possibilities in comparison to stand-alone systems. The term of multimedia matures to the virtual reality. From the multimedia systems point of view, virtual reality should be threaten as artificial reality since the users interact with the artificial objects within artificial ambients. This work explains the reasons, scope, solutions and general aims of developing multimedia systems into virtual reality through the distributed object-oriented multimedia systems.
